Frequently Asked Questions

Who and what are the Arcola Jaycees?

The term Jaycee means 'Junior Chamber of Commerce'. The Jaycees are a young person’s volunteer organization that provides leadership training through Community, individual and management development. The purpose of the Arcola Jaycees is to offer young people the opportunity to develop and enhance their personal development and leadership skills through community service. We are the organization of choice for men and woman 21 - 40 years of age.

What's so great about being a Jaycee?

Help to make a difference in your community. You will learn organizational, communication, teamwork and leadership skills that could help you advance at work. Make new friends throughout the Junior Chamber, local, state, and national.

How much time do I have to give?

Contribute as much time as you can and want. Some members are very active, yet others can only plan and attend a few select projects a year. Your level of involvement depends on your interests and what you want to get out of your membership.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely - Members bring their children to many of our projects and meetings. They even help operate some projects. Children play a major part in what the Jaycees do.

What do I have to gain by joining the Jaycees?

There are many things to gain from your Jaycee experience. Probably the most positive aspect in becoming a Jaycee is that you will have the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and establish excellent business contacts in the local community.
Your work in the Jaycees will make you a valued citizen because of your contributions in service; working to help youth, the needy, and the neglected. You are working to build a community that is more than just a place to earn a living.
Another positive aspect of being a Jaycee is the leadership experience you will develop from working with other chapter members on various projects. Such experience can help strengthen the resume of a young person just entering the workforce. Of course, the main thing to being a Jaycee is to have fun!
